We are members of a community of artists and musicians
here in San Francisco as well as members of MoveOn.org. Like many
others, we feel an increasing dissatisfaction with the course our
country is taking due to the "leadership" of the current administration.
We also feel that simply voting in November is not enough to get
our country back on track.
We are working on an event to raise money for the MoveOn.org's 50
for the Future campaign. MoveOn shares the sentiments, concerns,
and frustrations of many Americans who are unhappy with the direction
our country has taken over the past 3-1/2 years. As many of us complain
about the leadership of our country and the ever-widening gap between
our ideals of a civilized world and the actions that are taking
place in our name, our group has decided to put our words into action.
50 for the Future is a program sponsored by MoveOn in its
efforts to raise $50 million through local grassroots fundraising
activities around the country. By reclaiming our rights to free
speech in the name of patriotism, average Americans with no ties
to big money will raise hard money to defeat President Bush in the
upcoming election and support progressive candidates who are in
touch with the state of world events. For more information about
MoveOn and its current projects visit www.moveon.org.
The event will take place on Friday, July 16, 2004 at Patrick
Simms Studios/ICANGallery, an alternative art space in the SOMA
district of San Francisco, which has agreed to host the event. We
have organized a silent art auction, exciting performers, and much
more! Our goal is to raise at least $5000 to donate to this campaign.
Our hope is to stage a successful event, make the most impact, and
get the most community involvement. We are excited to be able to
participate and support MoveOn in the campaign to get our country
back on track!
